“I’d Be So Pissed”: NFL Fans Are Tripping Out Over How Little Money Saquon Barkley Is Left With After Paying Massive Tax Bill On His New Contract

Football fans are stunned after learning just how much Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley must pay in taxes.

On Tuesday, less than a month after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl 59 championship, Barkley agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million. The deal includes $36 million in guaranteed money and $15 million in guarantees, and it keeps him signed in Philly through the 2028 campaign.

Barkley still has two years remaining on the three-year, $37.75 million contract he signed with the Eagles in free agency. But as a tremendously wealthy athlete, Barkley has a very high tax bill ahead of him.

As noted by Andrew Petcash of Profluence Sports, Saquon Barkley will only take home $10.9 million of his $20.6 million salary. He’ll pay $7.6 million in federal taxes, a $600,000 agent fee, $613,000 in jock taxes and $482,000 in FICA and Medicare.

Social media had all sorts of priceless reactions to the breakdown of Barkley’s tax bills:“I’m cool with 11M AFTER taxes,” wrote one user.

“I’d be so pissed,” another said.

“I see why some players go to the no tax states,” wrote a fan.

“Poor guy,” said a user.

“Shall i start the GoFundMe????” joked another.

“Damn he should come to dallas we have no state income tax,” remarked a fan.

Last year’s deal with Philly marked the first lucrative long-term contract of Barkley’s career. He played his first five seasons with the New York Giants (2018 to 2022) on a rookie deal before agreeing to play the 2023 campaign under the franchise tag.

Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards to win Offensive Player of the Year honors before helping the Eagles to a Super Bowl 59 championship. The 28-year-old was the MVP of a star-studded Philadelphia team in 2024, and it was wise of GM Howie Roseman to extend Barkley through the remainder of his prime before the RB market increases any further.
