Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is retiring at the age of 29, though not according to him.
Renfrow, a two-time National Champion with the Clemson Tigers, played for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2019-2023. The South Carolina native was a Pro Bowler after experiencing a breakout season in 2021.
The wideout had a good start to his professional career before taking things up a notch in 2021, when he hit the 1,000-yard mark (1,038 receiving yards off 103 catches, to be precise). However, he was unable to replicate that performance in the years to follow.
The Raiders released him a year ago after he failed to register more than 400 yards in 2022 and 2023. Given the fact that the team had signed the likes of Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Brock Bowers, and Michael Mayer over the span of a few years, they had no qualms about letting him go.
According to the NFL Rumors X account, the receiver is calling it quits.
Renfrow has also shown up as an employee on the About page of a recycling company in South Carolina.
UPDATE: We’re Not Sure Hunter Renfrow Is Retiring After All

While Hunter Renfrow hasn’t signed with a new team since he was cut last March, and his stock has tanked, the former Clemson star might not actually be retiring.
As noted above, the announcement didn’t come from Hunter.
He caught wind of it less than an hour after it was posted and seemed just as surprised as everyone else was.
“Just when I thought about making a comeback I get hit with this bombshell…… guess I shouldn’t have started working out again 2 months ago lol,” he wrote.
So he’s probably not retiring after all…
