New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner responded to online criticism over his play this week but has since deleted his clapback.
The Jets have been an unmitigated disaster this season, although they boast one of the best rosters on paper. Aaron Rodgers has not been the quarterback they thought he would be, while the Davante Adams trade hasn’t quite worked out as yet.
Gardner’s play also seems to have dropped, though it’s tough to blame him given the current state of affairs. The entire defensive unit has moved several steps back and has allowed at least 20 points a game in four straight games while failing to get key stops.
Gardner, undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks in the league, hasn’t found top form as yet this season and has been fielding a lot of criticism online.
Sauce Gardner Had Some Knowledge For Dov Kleiman
A bawl hawk on the field, the former Cincinnati star has a good view of most things going on on social media and often has a say on current issues.
He shared a tweet defending a recent play after Dov Kleiman went after him for getting skinned by New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson on Sunday.
“I have a couple of things here. 1, I was trynna make a play on the ball and it was great ball placement,” he wrote in response. “It’s football; it happens. 2, There is a close PRIMETIME NFL football game on and this is what really crossed your mind. Rent due?”
Sauce has since deleted the tweet.
The 24-year-old has played eight games for New York this season, recording 18 tackles, three passes defensed, zero forced fumbles, and no interceptions.
The Jets are also on a five-game losing streak, with their woes unsolved despite the firing of Robert Saleh and the acquisition of Adams.
They will play the Houston Texans at home this Thursday.
