On Saturday, Texas Tech took on TCU and lost the game 34-35. However, the most exciting part of the game came for Texas Tech’s kicker Reese Burkhardt
While lining up for a field goal down 11, the special teams snapped the ball, and the holder flipped it out to Burkhardt, who took the ball into the endzone for a touchdown.
Immediately after scoring, Burkg=hardt pulled up his jersey to display a message on a. white T-shirt underneath endorsing Donald Trump and MAGA ahead of the presidential election.
Of course, anything related to politics gets a lot of attention on social media.
“Then he missed a FG and his team lost by one. Maybe should have focused on the game,” said one comment.
“He should be cut immediately. Politics have no place in college sports,” another said.
“And then misses a fg. His teammate in the 4th fumble with under two minutes left. And they lose the game. SAD,” a third added.
“Imagine celebrating the most exciting moment of your career by making it about a politician,” a fourth continued.
With the presidential election approaching, do not be surprised if more athletes become even more vocal about politics.
Reese Burkhardt Is In His Fourth Season
Burkhardt is a Texas Tech senior and could play his last college football season.
He originally started his NCAA career at UAb, where he spent two years. He did not attempt a single field goal and went 2-2 on extra points.
After those two years, he moved to the Red Raiders, where he still hasn’t had much opportunity. He has attempted just four field goals in his two years, making three of them.
He’s also gone 10 for 10 in his extra-point attempts.
