Josh Gordon has had one of the most interesting football careers ever. The former second-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2012 has officially announced his retirement from the NFL at 33 years old.
In his second year, 2013, he took over the league by leading the NFL in receiving yards with 1,656, which looked to be one of the few bright spots the organization had to look forward to after bringing home a First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl.
Unfortunately, after that, Gordon would be hit with all kinds of different suspensions. He played in just five games in 2014 after being suspended by the league for being impaired while driving and one game by the Browns for violating team rules.
That was only the beginning, as he was once again suspended by the NFL, this time for the entire year in 2015, for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy after failing a drug test for marijuana.
In 2016, Gordon was denied reinstatement back to the league and would not make another return until Week 13 of 2017.
The Browns cut him after Week 1 in 2018, but he was eventually picked up by the New England Patriots, where he won a Super Bowl against the Rams.
Between the next three years, he had short stints with the Seahawks, Chiefs, and Titans until playing his final snaps for Tennessee in 2022.
Josh Gordon Will Most Notably Be Known For His Off The Field Struggles
Despite being an excellent player who racked up 4,284 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns throughout his career, Gordon will be known most notably for one thing.
That was his inability to stay on the field. He was suspended six different times by the NFL, all of which surrounded his problem with the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Gordon will be remembered as one of the biggest “what if” players ever.
