Philadelphia Eagles Shock Fans With Bold Decision Involving Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles have never been afraid to go against the grain, and their latest coaching hire proves it. In a move that surprised many, the team has tapped Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler to replace Doug Nussmeier as quarterbacks coach. Loeffler, who last played in the NFL with the 2008 Detroit Lions, the only team to go 0-16, will now shape Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts’ future.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg first reported the news on February 28, with Bowling Green president Rodney Rogers later confirming it. “Scot has been dedicated to not only BGSU Football but to all our student-athletes and BGSU Athletics,” Rogers said. “He cares deeply about player development and student success, and we wish him all the best as he continues his coaching career in the NFL with the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles.”

Loeffler’s coaching career spans three decades, with experience at major college programs like Auburn, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. Though his tenure at Bowling Green saw ups and downs, he led the team to back-to-back winning seasons and three consecutive bowl appearances before leaping the NFL.

His hire raises eyebrows, given that his only previous NFL coaching experience came with the 2008 Lions, a team infamous for their winless season. However, the Eagles clearly see something in Loeffler’s ability to develop quarterbacks. His early career included working with future Hall of Famer Tom Brady at Michigan, where he was part of the Wolverines’ 1997 national championship-winning staff.
