JJ Watt Finally Gives In And Responds To Lions Fans Begging Him To Come Out Of Retirement Following Aidan Hutchinson’s Injury

JJ Watt was among the best NFL defensive ends ever to play the position. His plethora of accolades may be one of the many reasons he’ll be inducted into Canton one day. It may also be why some fans are asking him to unretire.

The Detroit Lions played the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and the score was completely lopsided. It was undoubtedly one of the most talked-about games this past weekend; however, it wasn’t due to the score or the fact that the Cowboys were losing.

Unfortunately, the Lions’ 47-to-9 win over the Cowboys did not include all good news, as they lost one of their best defensive players, Aidan Hutchinson. It was later confirmed that he had a broken tibia and fibula and would be out for the season, prompting some Lions fans to call on JJ Watt.

One fan posted to X to ask Watt how often he’s heard Lions fans asking to come out of retirement to play in Detriot. The three-time defensive player of the year did have an answer for fans, but it wasn’t what they were looking for.

JJ Watt Shoots Down Requests To Join Detroit Lions

Watt joked about the unfortunate situation as he tried to keep Motor City fans in a good mood. “Haha, once or twice,” he said, claiming that he’s been asked more than once to come out of retirement.

He added that he is terribly sorry for the Lions’ defensive end, stating, “Lions fans, I see, hear & appreciate you. Love your squad, love Detroit & love Hutch. Gutted for him,” before saying how much he loves retirement.

“This morning I poured a cup of coffee and took a walk by the lake with my wife & son before breakfast. I’m very much enjoying this phase of life,” and while it may not be the answer that Lions fans (or the NFL fans, for that matter) want to hear, it certainly is good for Watt that he is enjoying his retirement.
