NFL fans are understandably concerned following a horrific incident that took place after the Detroit Lions hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field on Sunday.
Two people were shot at a tailgate outside of the stadium following the game, with one of them dying on the scene.
While the Detroit Lions are now 1-1 after a surprising loss, the shooting is what’s on everyone’s mind.
According to police, a fight broke out at the tailgate after the loss and was dispersed shortly after. However, two men squared up sometime later and raised their hands to suggest they were about to fight before one pulled out a gun and fired “at least twice.”
A Lions fan in his 40s was killed and was shown on the ground in videos that have since made it online. The suspect, reportedly in his 30s, was arrested on the scene.
Fans Terrified Over Shooting That Followed Detroit Lions Loss
Fans posted comments suggesting they were worried over the possibility of being seriously hurt or worse at football games.
“Damn yall trippin! I remember fighting another Bucs fan when I was younger after we lost. But shooting someone is crazy…ppl scared to take a whooping these days. Condolences to the families!” one wrote.
“That’s why I wear a bulletproof vest to all tailgates i attend,” someone else said.
“So sad that we’re not even safe tailgating anymore,” a Detroit Lions fan wrote.
“Such a tragic event. My thoughts are with the families affected and those impacted by the shooting,” another added.
“Football is not that serious. Tailgating isn’t even safe anymore,” a user lamented.
“Shooting in these games situation is crazy,” said another.
James White, Detroit’s Chief of Police, spoke to reporters after the incident and expressed his frustrations.
“The biggest story that should have been told is the Lions lost and some people had a fight,” he said. “But, unfortunately, we’ve got somebody who lost their life.”
Officers were already close to the area conducting traffic and were able to make a quick arrest. Two guns were also recovered from the scene.
