New Netflix '11/10' horror based on a true story saw actors hospitalised and dog die on set

The director of the number one film on Netflix has claimed the movie’s set was plagued by supernatural forces

The newest Netflix film to be taking the streamer by storm has a chequered and unfortunate production history.

The movie, which is top of Netflix’s charts in the UK and has been a hit with fans, was itself the subject of a bizarre set of behind the scenes occurrences

This eventually led to actors in hospital, and even a dog dying on set.

While this may sound like the fault of the team behind the scenes, if the director’s word is anything to go by, it was simply a case of the supernatural focus of the film bleeding over into its production.

Director Lee Daniels opened up about this to Sirius XM, where he said he organised prayer circles on set of the film.

He said: “Things happen, and I was not gonna let things happen on my set, and also I needed it for me.

“And even with that, there were still things that happened on the set that was – my sister is in every movie that I’ve ever done as my good luck charm, and she was in the scene with Glenn in the chemo scene, and she’s the one that sort of gave her attitude in the chemo scene.

“And two days later, after being in the chemo scene, she was diagnosed with lung cancer – literally. My dog died on the set.”

The Deliverance follows a family as they grapple with demonic possession, and it’s based on the real life experiences of a woman who claimed in an Indianapolis Star article in 2014 called The Exorcisms of Latoya Ammons that she and her kids were being terrorised by ‘shadowy figures’.

Directed by Lee Daniels, the film stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Caleb McLaughlin, and Mo’Nique.

Mo’Nique also ended up in hospital with a thyroid issue following the filming of a particularly harrowing scene.

She said: “Mr Daniels had me doing a scene, OK? We’re outside. It was just, the demon was supposed to be on top of the building, so they kept blowing this… I mean, at one point I’m like, ‘Lee do we have to have this s*** because I can’t breathe.’”

Despite this hellish production background, The Deliverance has stormed to the top of Netflix’s film chart since its release.

One post in the Facebook group Netflix Bangers asked about the film, with one fan commenting: “11/10”.

A second commented: “Watched last night, and just as I was about to complain it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, it got really scary. Definitely recommend.”

Another commented: “Since it’s based on a true story (super good)”.

The Deliverance is available to watch on Netflix now.
