United States President Donald Trump and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell are set to make a major league announcement on Monday afternoon.
The White House has released Trump’s schedule for Monday and notes that he has an unspecified sports-related announcement.
According to Axios, the POTUS will name Washington, D.C., the host city for the 2027 NFL Draft, with Goodell and Commanders owner Josh Harris to join him.
The city’s iconic National Mall is the planned venue for the event.
“President Trump plans to announce Monday that Washington, D.C., will host the 2027 NFL Draft, with the aim of holding it on the National Mall, Axios has learned,” the outlet reported late Sunday night. While Washington is America’s capital, it has not hosted an NFL Draft in 84 years. New York and Philadelphia took charge of the event from 1984, with Philly becoming the only host in 1965. The NFL moved the draft to Chicago after 50 years, with the 2015 and 2016 drafts being held there.
Since then, a new city has been chosen as the venue each year. The most recent NFL Draft was held in Green Bay just over a week ago in late April, while Pittsburgh will stage the affair in 2026.
Donald Trump’s Expected Announcement To Follow Major Team Development

This planned announcement comes just days after the Commanders, along with D.C. officials, revealed plans to move into a new arena on the site of the old RFK Stadium.
Harris and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced at the end of April that the team would return to the grounds where they played from 1961 to 1996.
The stadium costs are believed to be around the region of $4 billion, which would make it the second-most expensive stadium ever built, with the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles No. 1 in such regard.
