According to a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Jaguars are trading Christian Kirk to the AFC South rival Houston Texans in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft selection.
Earlier this week, reports indicated that the Jaguars were planning to release Kirk from the final year of his contract. Instead, they find a taker for the veteran wideout who has one season remaining on the four-year, $72 million deal he signed in 2022.
The trade for Kirk comes one day after news emerged that Texans star wideout Tank Dell underwent surgery on a torn ACL. It’s currently unknown when Dell, who previously underwent procedures to repair a torn MCL and LCL, will return to action in 2025.
With Pro Bowl wideout Stefon Diggs also headed to free agency, Texans GM Nick Caserio needed to find extra playmakers for C.J. Stroud. And he gets a former 1,000-yard receiver for the low price of a sixth-round pick.
Christian Kirk Could Be A Steal For The Texans

Kirk was coming off a 77-982-5 stat line with the Arizona Cardinals when he signed a big money deal with Jacksonville in 2022. And he was on his way to another 1,000-yard season in 2023 (57 catches for 787 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games) before suffering a season-ending injury.
So if he’s healthy, Kirk could easily emerge as a reliable No. 2 receiver for Houston behind Nico Collins. He’s a consistent 700-yard threat, which is more than enough for a Texans team that needs more playmakers with Dell set to miss considerable time.
