For those of you who don’t know what 97 mph looks like, ask NFL star A.J. Brown. He knows it very well. The star wide receiver recently shared a candid story about choosing football over baseball. Brown recounted a hilarious moment that made him rethink his athletic career path.
During an appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Brown laughed off his early experience with baseball. He recounted his experience at the Under Armour High School All-America Baseball Game in 2015. He found himself in right field, witnessing firsthand just how fast the pitches were coming in.
“I’ll tell you when I made the decision to play football. I’m in right field. I’m in the All-American game in Chicago. The first pitch was like 97 (mph) — 97 off the rip? I’m usually facing like 85. We still in high school, though… I end up hitting it and actually hitting it to third base, like a little dribble to third base. I end up beating it out. I’m on base and I’m like, ‘These boys throwing this ball hard as hell. We in high school. What’s it gonna be like when I get to the league?’ Na, I’ll go catch that football,” Brown explained.
When he faced a staggering 97 mph fastball, he humorously realized that the competition was far fiercer than he had anticipated. The story took a humorous turn as Brown recalled his thoughts during that game. Despite typically facing pitches around 85 mph, A.J. Brown was taken aback by the speed and skill of his fellow high school players.
Colin Cowherd Has A Bizarre Suggestion Regarding A.J. Brown
After getting taken aback by the scathing ball speed, Brown’s choice proved to be the right one. Despite being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, he shifted gears and focused on his football career. Though his recent years have been good, he got some bizarre suggestions from an analyst lately. Colin Cowherd has stirred the NFL pot once again and suggested that the Eagles should consider trading star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Just after the Eagles’ impressive Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Cowherd expressed concern about Brown’s public comments regarding quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“I’m over chatty wide receivers calling out quarterbacks. Let’s be honest, with DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Saquon Barkley, and that offensive line, you can move off A.J. Brown. He’s very, very good… but you can move off him,” Cowherd blasted.
Despite Brown’s significant contribution to the Eagles’ championship run, Cowherd seemed frustrated with what he calls “chatty” wide receivers. His agitation led him to propose that the team might be better off without their star receiver.
His comments come in light of Brown’s admission of some on-field tensions with Hurts, which Cowherd deemed inappropriate for public discussion. If the Eagles choose to retain Brown, Cowherd believes they should issue him a stern ultimatum regarding his comments about the quarterback.
