Report: New York Giants have discussed 2-year deal worth up to $100M with Matthew Stafford

In the race for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Las Vegas Raiders appeared to surge out ahead of the New York Giants on Thursday, but the situation remains fluid.

Art Stapleton of USA TODAY reports that as of Friday morning, the Giants have narrowed the gap and closed in on the “terms of contract parameters” similar to the Raiders. However, a return to the Rams still remains the most likely outcome.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini also reports that the Giants and Raiders have discussed a two-year deal for Stafford in the range of $90-$100 million guaranteed.

With both of those offers now on the table, Stafford will return to Los Angeles to meet with the Rams on Friday. A final decision is expected soon.

Stafford and his representatives may have merely used the Giants and Raiders for leverage, but if the Rams don’t bite, East Rutherford and Las Vegas become viable destinations.

The Giants have made Stafford their No. 1 priority this offseason and would have to make a significant adjustment if they aren’t able to finalize a trade and new contract.
