Fans have called for a country superstar to play the Super Bowl next year after what has been labelled the ‘worst halftime show ever’.
Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans on Sunday was not what the fans were hoping for.
The 37-year-old took to the stage before the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting his performance crouching on top of a car, after being introduced by Samuel L. Jackson dressed up as Uncle Sam, the rapper sang his popular hit ‘Not Like Us’ where he calls Drake a ‘Certified pedophile’. The ‘God’s Plan’ singer is currently suing Universal Music Group over the song.
The musician decided to leave out the word so as to avoid more legal action but said to the audience ‘I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.’
Kendrick went on to perform a medley of his hit songs before being joined by SZA.
He also sang two other controversial lines including ‘Say Drake, I hear you like them young’ and ‘trying to strike a chord and it’s probably a minor,’ to which the crown sang along.
He also wear a large letter ‘a’ on a chain around his neck, in reference to ‘A minor’.
Drake has denied allegations and responded to the diss track by releasing his own, ‘The Heart Part 6’ where he says his was ‘not a name you gon’ see on no sex offender list’.
At one point of the show, a man carrying a Palestinian flag attempted to storm on stage but was intercepted by security.
At another point, Jackson joined him back on stage and said ‘Too loud, too reckless, too ghetto. Mr. Lamar, do you really know how to play the game?’
He performed ‘wacced out murals’, ‘Bodies’, ‘Squabble’, ‘Euphoria’, ‘Humble’, ‘DNA’, ‘man at the garden’, and ‘Peekaboo’ by himself, before he was joined by SZA.
The duo performed their collabs ‘Luther’ and ‘All the Stars’.
Kendrick was also joined on stage by DJ Mustard during the show.
He finished off his performance with the song ‘Tv Off’.
Fans were not impressed with the performance with one person writing on social media; ‘worst halftime show ever not a fan.’
‘I genuinely can’t tell if I’m being biased against Kendrick but I think this is the worst halftime show I’ve seen in a minute,’ another added.
‘I thought The Weekend was bad but Kendrick Lamar took that spot! Worst half time show ever!’
‘So far the best part of the halftime show is Samuel L Jackson,’ another complained.
‘Somehow Kendrick is worse than the game itself.’
‘This half time show at The Super Bowl by Kendrick Lamar is hot garbage… Worst of all time…’ another wrote.
Fans are now calling for Morgan Wallen to perform at next year’s Super Bowl show. One person wrote on X: ‘Enough nonsense. Morgan Wallen Super Bowl halftime show 2026,’ while another commented: ‘Morgan Wallen Super Bowl 2026?’
‘Can we have Morgan Wallen at Super Bowl next year please?’ one fan asked while another said: ‘Trump is going to ensure that Morgan Wallen does the next three Super Bowl halftime shows.’
