Saquon Barkley has offered his thoughts on Taylor Swift getting booed during the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
The superstar artist was in attendance at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to watch as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, attempted to three-peat with the Kansas City Chiefs. But they never got it going, as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense kept the KC offense tame all night.
It’s safe to assume that Taylor did not have an enjoyable night out, given that her guy’s team got smashed, and then she heard ringing boos from the stadium when she showed up on the jumbotron during the game.
While the singer is adored internationally and is beloved among Chiefs fans, other fanbases do not appreciate her presence at games.
Barkley, though, doesn’t understand why some fans hate the future Mrs. Kelce.
“I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed,” he told Howard Stern, per ProFootballTalk. “I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there.”
Saquon Barkley Reckons NFL Fans Should Appreciate Taylor Swift
The running back added that the flak Taylor Swift gets is unfair as she’s helped make football bigger.
“She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger,” he remarked. “We’re all about, in football, we’re all about how can we expand the game and make it more international and we’re traveling to Brazil and we’re traveling to Mexico, and apparently we’re traveling to Australia soon, so we’re trying to expand the game and her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”
Of course, fans won’t see it the way Saquon Barkley does. As far as they’re concerned, the only NFL team deserving of a growing fanbase is whichever one they support.
Philly fans, in particular, dislike Swift because they feel like she should be in their colors because of her Pennsylvania roots.
They had been feeling hard-done-by for two years before Sunday night provided the most extraordinary reprieve ever, but that hardly means they’ll go easy on her next season.
