Trey Lance’s Days With The Dallas Cowboys Are Pretty Much Over After Jerry Jones’ Recent Comments

The Dallas Cowboys are pretty much the definition of a dumpster fire right now. After their last loss to the Texans on Monday Night Football, they are 3-7, and one would think they would turn to Trey Lance.

Even the Cowboys’ stadium is falling apart after a piece of metal fell down from the roof, causing workers to have to secure other pieces so they wouldn’t fall. So, would a quarterback change hurt anyone?

The team turned to long-time backup Cooper Rush, with Dak Prescott likely out for the season following a leg injury. After the signal caller’s rough going, some fans are calling for Lance to get the start; however, according to Jerry Jones, it’s not happening.

Jones had an interview with 105.3 The Fan and essentially shut down all rumors of the former number three overall pick starting for the team in Prescott’s absence. A sure shot to the former 49ers quarterback.

Is Trey Lance Done In Dallas?

Lance was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, and all the Cowboys had to give up for the first-round ball slinger was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 Draft. Fans had little hope that Lance would have a future in Dallas after the Cowboys declined his fifth-year option in May 2023.

The North Dakota State University alum has only seen meaningful action once with the Cowboys, and that was for a short stint against the Eagles. He threw for 21 yards and an interception, but he completed nearly 70 percent of his passes.

While Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ leadership may not see it and want to let him go, Lance’s potential is there. In two injury-plagued seasons with the 49ers, he threw for five touchdowns compared to just three interceptions and nearly 800 yards.

While Brock Purdy may have stolen his job in San Fran, and he may have had no job in Dallas, to begin with, it will be interesting to see where Trey Lance ends up in free agency in 2025, as the odds are that he will be testing the market.
