The New York Giants are reportedly set to bench starting quarterback Daniel Jones after their bye week. The team has registered just two wins from 10 outings this season and has decided to start Tommy DeVito in his place, with the change being described as a “football decision.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who cites sources, broke the news on Monday morning.
“Sources: The New York Giants are expected to replace Daniel Jones with Tommy DeVito as their new starting quarterback,” the NFL insider wrote.
Tommy DeVito Should Be A Welcome Sight In New York
Tommy DeVito became an instant fan favorite after replacing Jones following an injury last season, with even his agent going viral on several occasions due to his style of dress and a few controversial reports.
DeVito, a New York native, was lauded for bringing “magic” to the team in 2023, and there’s hope that he could do it again.
The Giants coaching staff had been evaluating Jones and his struggles throughout 2024 and have decided to go with DeVito.
The decision is also believed to have been influenced by the $23 million guarantee in the quarterback’s contract for next season, which would allow him to pick up his checks in the case of a long-term injury.
