The San Francisco 49ers lost yet again to the Kansas City Chiefs, this time by a score of 28-18, and Brock Purdy’s play on the field did not help matters.
The Kansas City Chiefs own the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan fell to 0-5 against the Chiefs, and the team’s failure to defeat them is wearing thin on everybody in the building.
The Chiefs have now got the upper hand, winning five straight against the 49ers, including those two Super Bowl titles. No wonder the San Francisco 49ers coach was frustrated after the game.
Brock Purdy finished 17-of-31 for 212 yards, zero touchdowns, and a trio of interceptions. Purdy added 27 rush yards and two touchdowns on the ground, though.
After the game, his head coach needed to speak with him at his locker.
“Kyle Shanahan just lectured Brock Purdy for five minutes at his locker. Purdy listened and said nothing. Never seen anything like it,” Grant Cohn reported.
While speaking to the media, Kyle Shanahan discussed the team’s offense and quarterback, Brock Purdy.
When asked about his three interceptions and the inexperienced receivers’ play, Shanahan accepted the fault, saying, “I mean, we didn’t do anything really good on offense, I know he’d [Brock Purdy] love to have all three of those picks back, Brock has played unbelievable this year, done some good things on offense, but today, was the bad day.”
Following San Francisco’s loss to Kansas City, the team fell to 3-4.
This is not the start the team envisioned coming off a Super Bowl appearance, with Purdy’s inconsistency becoming an early theme of the season.
The Fan Fare Surrounding Brock Purdy Has Seemingly Ended
In his first full season as a starter, Purdy set the 49ers’ single-season franchise record for passing yards with 4,280. He also had 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
How fans felt about him in 2023 has wavered now that he is not playing the same in 2024.
Purdy has 1,841 passing yards this season to go along with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions.Injuries are a huge part of why the team cannot get on track, but bad quarterback play is also a factor in any team.
