Patrick Mahomes Sr. is currently serving a five-year probation sentence following a DWI arrest that took place before the Super Bowl this year.
The development was a major talking point before the big game between the Chiefs and 49ers at the Allegiant Stadium, and it could have been playing on Patrick Mahomes’ mind in the buildup. But the star quarterback showed nerves of steel as he led his team to a second successive title win.
Patrick Sr. must have been extra relieved as he would have probably blamed himself, given that he was visibly frustrated after getting into trouble with the law so close to one of the biggest games of his son’s career.
Mahomes was heard name-dropping his son in newly-released footage from TMZ after he was pulled over on February 3.
He admitted to having a few drinks but insisted he was not drunk as he pleaded with an officer to allow someone to pick him up, stating an arrest would be too much for the Chiefs QB to deal with given that he was about to play in such a big game.
“Are y’all serious?” … he asked, “I’m supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we’re doing?”
He was placed into a squad car, where he’s shown begging to be released.
“Can I say one thing?” he asked the officer. “My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I’ve had some drinks. But he can’t have this right now. Listen, this can’t happen.”
He was also heard cursing himself out, saying he messed up after the lawman left him alone for a few seconds.
