Rob Gronkowski returned to FOX NFL Sunday in Week 4 after missing the last two weeks, and he was certainly in for quite the surprise.
The FOX crew took the opportunity to share a video in which they pranked him so badly by telling him about a player who does not exist.
Gronkowski, Curt Menefee, Jay Glazer, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Michael Strahan discussed the impact of his pending return.
It started with Jay Glazer breaking news about Dallas Cowboys’ tight end Rich Russo, who was coming back for the first time since he lost two fingers on his hand.
Not having a clue that this guy did not exist, Rob Gronkowski did his best to roll with the news as he spouted a bunch of cliches about him being rusty, and focused on the Cowboys’ existing tight end, Jake Ferguson.
“I just got off the phone with Mike McCarthy,” Glazer said. “And you guys know how big of a weapon Rich Russo is for that team.”
“They just just activated him, right?” Long asked.
“They just activated him,” Glazer confirmed. “They didn’t know if he was gonna be able to play today. They think he’s good to go not only today, but they are gonna put him heavily into that game plan. Expect a lot of Rich Russo.”
“That’s big,” Strahan said. “Because Russo is a complete game-changer. He takes so much pressure off Dak. He takes so much pressure off the run game. Great blocker, great receiver, red zone threat.”
The best part was Rob Gronkowski thinking his crew were laughing at him for saying he had five fingers instead of ten.
Eventually, Curt Menefee explained that it was all a prank, and Gronk confessed he had no idea who the non-existent player was.
The fact that he segment started with the Cowboys winning six games in a row should’ve been where Gronk knew it was fake, but he still went with it.
