VIDEO: Dallas Cowboys Hall Of Fame QB Troy Aikman Opens Up About Difficult Personal Moment In His Life Where He Hit “Rock Bottom”

ESPN NFL analyst and Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman recently opened up on a personal life hardship that led to him hitting “rock bottom.”

Troy Aikman and longtime TV partner Joe Buck have kicked off their third season with ESPN together, calling the New York Jets-San Francisco 49ers “Monday Night Football” game at Levi’s Stadium.

Compared to most other NFL greats and popular sports media personalities, Aikman isn’t usually one to discuss his personal life. But during a recent interview with Zak Keefer of The Athletic, the three-time Super Bowl champion admitted that he hit “rock bottom” during his second marriage

“A failure. That was my rock bottom. For me, contentment was always a four-letter word. I never wanted to be content. I didn’t wanna be around anyone who was content. That’s just not a place I could land.”

Troy Aikman was first married to Rhonda Worthey, a former team publicist, from 2000 to 2011. They had two daughters together, and Worthey has another daughter from a previous marriage. The 57-year-old Aikman married his second wife, Catherine “Capa” Mooty, in Sept. 2017. Last year, reports stated that the Hall of Famer and Mooty had divorced after six years of marriage.

Aikman, who was drafted first overall by the Cowboys in 1989, turned the Cowboys back into an NFL juggernaut in the 90s. Along with fellow Hall of Famers in head coach Jimmy Johnson, wide receiver Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith, Aikman helped Dallas to three Super Bowl championships over a four-year span (1992, 1993 and 1995).

Unfortunately, multiple concussions and a serious back injury forced Aikman to retire after the 2000 season, when he was only 34 years old. However, the Cowboys icon found tremendous success and created another special legacy as a top NFL analyst that began with FOX in 2001.
