Martin Lewis’ MSE issues warning to Tesco Clubcard owners who must act today

Financial expert Martin Lewis is back again to make sure Brits get full value for money – and this time, he’s issued a fresh warning to Tesco Clubcard owners who must act today (31 August).

The founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, 52, is best known for offering advice on how to save a few quid, as well as managing your money, and getting the best bang for your buck.

This time, his MoneySavingExpert (MSE) website had provided an important reminder for Tesco Clubcard owners.

Clubcard is basically a loyalty program that rewards customers for shopping at Tesco in-store and online.

By signing up for the Clubcard, customers earn points for every pound spent; one point for every £1 in-store and online or one point for every £2 on fuel, according to Tesco’s website.

These points add up and are converted into Clubcard vouchers, which are sent out every three months, and can be used to save money on future purchases.

Clubcard owners also get a special discount on selected items online and in-store.

Points then get boosted up to three times their value when exchanged for rewards from Tesco’s partners – which is great news for discounts on restaurants, travel, and entertainment services.

Once you’ve signed up through the Tesco app or website, you can choose a physical card, a key fob, or the digital version through the app, which is the most practical if you know how to use a phone.

MSE has warned that Tesco Clubcard vouchers issued in August 2022 are set to expire at 11.59pm this evening.

These vouchers are only valid for two years and you’ll need to use them up quick before you lose them.

However, there is an unknown hack that allows you to get an extension on the vouchers.

MSE explains that if you make a small purchase on the Clubcard Rewards page, the remaining balance is then credited back on the Clubcard.

“So if you spend 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher, you’ll get 450 points back (worth £4.50),” MSE said.

“You’ll need to do this for each individual voucher, so it’s worth weighing up if it’s actually worth it for smaller denominations.

“For example, if you’ve a £10 voucher it could be worth it. If you’ve got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so.”

The website suggests that ‘you should also check if you have any codes to use at Tesco’s Reward Partners’

“When you exchange Clubcard vouchers to use at one of Tesco’s Reward Partners, you’re sent a new voucher with a code to redeem,” they added.

“These codes are usually valid for six months, and there’s no way of extending them (that we’re aware of).”
