Major Update Released On The Pirates Fan & Former College Football Player Who Suffered 21-Ft Fall Head-First Onto The Field During Game

An update on the status of Kavan Markwood, the Pirates fan who fell from the stands at PNC Park on Wednesday, has been released following his 21-foot tumble.

A GoFundMe page set up for the 20-year-old claims he is now awake, alert, and communicating.

Jennifer Phillips, the woman who made the page, offered the update this weekend, noting that Markwood has a long road to full recovery but that his progress, given the gravity of the situation, is miraculous.

“As of this morning, Kavan is awake, alert, and able to speak,” she wrote. “After everything he’s been through since the accident on Wednesday night, this progress feels nothing short of miraculous.”

“He still has a long road ahead of him, but today brought a moment of hope that we’ve all been holding onto,” she added.
