Donald Trump has yet again implied that he’s going to run for a third term in office
Donald Trump has once again suggested the idea of running for a third term in office, despite this being prohibited.
Trump is currently serving his second, and what should be the last, four years as US president as the country’s 22nd Amendment prevents a person from running for a third term.
As per the National Constitution Center, the legislation in question states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”But there are supposedly ways around this and Trump has long alluded to the idea of running again. In fact, he previously stated that he’s already raised funds for the next race.
While the POTUS seemed to have been joking when he expressed such sentiments on the topic previously, he’s now confirmed that he’s quite serious about the apparent ‘methods’ that he could use to stay in office.
Speaking to NBC News yesterday (March 30), Trump said of running for another term: “A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

When asked directly about the idea of running for a third term, the 78-year-old said: “I like working. I’m not joking. But I’m not – it is far too early to think about it.”
He went on to note that ‘there are methods which you could do it’.
One possible method would see Vice President JD Vance run for office and then pass the role to Trump.
Trump confirmed that this is one of the ways in which he could do it, but declined to share any other ‘methods’.
Aiding his plans is a newly proposed bill put forward by US Representative Andy Ogles.
Ogles wants the decades-old 22nd Amendment to be changed so that Trump could stay as president until 2032.

Ogles wants the language of the proposed amendment to read: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
