Dave Portnoy Was Offered Big-Time Job From The White House That Requires Him To Leave Barstool Sports

Dave Portnoy has revealed that he’s been offered a big U.S. Government job following Donald Trump’s return to office.

Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2000 and has seen it grow into one of the most notable sports brands in American media following its start as a gambling newsletter.

The 47-year-old regained full control of the company after buying it back from PENN Gaming in August 2023. But whatever the job is, it would have required him to give it up.

Speaking on his ‘Davey Day Trader’ show this week, Portnoy disclosed having been offered a job working under Secretary Howard Lutnick in the U.S. Commerce Department.

He didn’t reveal exactly what it was but said he turned it down because he didn’t want to leave Barstool, something he implied was unfair because Elon Musk is heading the DOGE committee while still fully committed to Tesla and SpaceX.“How do you run Tesla when you’re working on DOGE 24-7?” he asked. “You kind of want your CEO with the eye on the ball, right?”

Dave Portnoy Has Made Some Powerful Friends

“I hope he stays in the race and I hope he wins. Why? Because I love the fact that he is making other politicians squirm,” he wrote.

Things could continue to get interesting for the Barstool brand owner, just as long as he doesn’t have to give up control again.
