“Darnold Over Geno Is Insane Work”: Social Media Had All Sorts Of Things To Say About The Seahawks Replacing Geno Smith With Sam Darnold

The internet has offered plenty of reactions to Sam Darnold’s surprising new deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Hawks have wasted little time getting a new starting quarterback after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders a few days ago, addressing their biggest need on Day 1 of NFL free agency.

According to Adam Schefter, who cites ESPN sources, the QB is joining the Seahawks on a three-year deal following his resurgence in a Minnesota Vikings uniform in 2024.

Schefter notes that Darnold will earn $110.5 million from his new deal, with $55 million of that sum guaranteed.

Given that Geno Smith had been very good for Seattle over the past three seasons, the reactions came in mixed.

“This is not terrible.  He got the “Baker Mayfield type” contract.  Hopefully he taking advantage of it is does well,” a fan claimed.

“Massive deal for a sideway move by Seahawks going Geno to Sam,” said another.

“This SCREAMS bridge QB,” noted a third.

“Darnold over Geno is insane work. Give me Geno all day any day,” said a fourth.

“I’m happy for him, but that still seems like a lot for a guy without a playoff win as a starter,” another user declared.

“How were they confident enough they would land Darnold to trade away Geno? Tampering?” someone asked.

Darnold had an incredible campaign in Minnesota but could not get the job done in the playoffs.

Still, there was a sense that he would be one of the more sought-out signal-callers on the market during free agency.

Seattle pulled the trigger on reaching an agreement with him at the first opportunity, as he would have likely gotten snatched up by another QB-needy side.

Meanwhile, the team’s offense will have a very different look about it in 2025 as they have also traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
