Joey Bosa’s Mother Drops Obvious Hint On His Next NFL Team After His Release From Chargers

Joey Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, posted an interesting Instagram video hinting at which team he’ll land with after getting cut by the Los Angeles Chargers

On Wednesday evening, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Chargers were releasing Joey Bosa after nine seasons. The five-time Pro Bowler had one year remaining on his deal, but the roster move saves the Bolts a whopping $25.36 million in cap space.

Bosa and fellow star edge rusher Khalil Mack were floated as strong cut candidates last year, but both agreed to return on restructured deals. Mack is a pending free agent, with no signs of an extension looming.

Following the star defensive end’s release, Cheryl Bosa shared an Instagram video showing photos of Joey and San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa together. Cheryl also teased a petition to unite the brothers on the West Coast:

In 2023, Nick Bosa signed a five-year extension with the 49ers worth $170 million. Unlike Joey Bosa, Nick has been mostly durable throughout his career, playing 14-plus games in five of his first six NFL seasons. But injuries have been a problem for Joey, who missed nine games in 2018, four in 2020, 12 in 2022, eight in 2023 and three in 2024. He hasn’t played 16-plus games in a season since 2021.

His injury history and massive salary prompted the Chargers to cut ties with Bosa. But if he can stay healthy, he’s a top-10 defensive end and game-changer who can expect plenty of interest on the free agent market.

Injuries derailed the 49ers’ 2024 season, but most of the core from the 2023 NFC Championship-winning team is still intact. If Joey wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, the 49ers fit that bill.

Plus, San Francisco needs more edge rushing help to complement Nick Bosa. Joey, a consistent double-digit sack threat, would immediately fill the roster hole for Kyle Shanahan and company.
