Seahawks & Bengals Swap Superstar WRs D.K. Metcalf For Tee Higgins In Blockbuster Trade Proposal That’s A Win-Win For Both Teams

A blockbuster trade proposal has the Seattle Seahawks swapping D.K. Metcalf for another superstar wide receiver.

On Wednesday afternoon, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that D.K. Metcalf requested a trade from the Seahawks. The news came after the team released fellow Pro Bowl wideout Tyler Lockett in a cap-saving move.

If Seattle shops Metcalf, there won’t be a shortage of teams interested in the two-time Pro Bowler. But instead of trading Metcalf for draft picks, what if the Seahawks swapped him out for another big-named receiver to ensure the offense doesn’t miss a beat?

The ML Football X/Twitter account proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see Seattle send D.K. Metcalf to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for Tee Higgins. The latter has received the franchise tag for the second straight year, and Cincy has until July 15 to work out a long-term extension.

The 27-year-old Metcalf has one season remaining on the three-year, $72 million extension he signed in 2022. With Higgins getting the franchise tag, both are currently under contract for just one more season.Cincinnati also has to extend superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and 2024 sacks leader Trey Hendrickson. So if they don’t feel optimistic about extending Higgins long-term, de facto GM Duke Tobin should at least ponder the idea of offering the big-bodied wideout for Metcalf or another pass-catcher.

Tee Higgins has four seasons of 60-plus receptions and over 900 yards on his resume since entering the league in 2020. Metcalf, who turned pro one year earlier, has five seasons of 60-plus catches and more than 900 yards.

Higgins’ numbers are especially impressive considering he’s had to play second-fiddle to Ja’Marr Chase since 2021, whereas Metcalf was Seattle’s No. 1 receiver for the majority of his first six seasons.

Add it all up, and a one-for-one swap actually seems fair for both sides.
