A surprise NFC team has emerged as the betting favorite to land former New York Jets star wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency.
Less than a month after notifying quarterback Aaron Rodgers that they were moving on, the Jets have decided to release the All-Pro wide receiver as well. By releasing Adams, New York will save a whopping $29.9 million against the cap.
The 2024 season was a disaster for the Jets, but Adams showed he has plenty left in the tank after recording 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. Adams played three games for the Las Vegas Raiders before getting traded to the Jets.
According to BetCalifornia.com, the San Francisco 49ers are the favorites to land Davante Adams in free agency at +350. Two other California teams, the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, share the second-best odds at +400.
The 49ers dealt 2021 All-Pro Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick on Saturday, and Brandon Aiyuk’s name has started to resurface in trade rumors. So the cap space is there if the 49ers want to seriously pursue Adams.Of course, there’s a good possibility that Adams and Rodgers will want to reunite after a disappointing stint together with the Jets. Teams linked to Rodgers include the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.
Other Teams That Should Target Davante Adams

Assuming Adams wants to play for a title contender, the teams that make the most sense for him include the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers (Adams’ team from 2014 to 2021), Los Angeles Rams (assuming they do trade Cooper Kupp) and Baltimore Ravens.
Adams suddenly becomes one of the top free agents in a market that’s weak on wide receiver depth outside of Chris Godwin and Stefon Diggs. Don’t be surprised if close to a dozen teams seriously pursue him once the new league year opens.
