A massive trade proposal has the Phoenix Suns setting off fireworks across the NBA by dealing superstar Kevin Durant to a Western Conference rival.
The Suns have been a massive disappointment this season, sitting at 25-24 one day before the trade deadline. The “big three” of Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Kevin Durant hasn’t worked, and GM James Jones must consider all options to keep his team competitive.
With Booker and Beal already in the fold, the Suns can trade Durant and re-emerge as a title contender if they get the right return. And perhaps the ideal solution comes from one of the top teams in the West.
Fox Sports proposed a league-altering trade idea that has Phoenix trading Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jabari Smith Jr., Dillon Brooks, Reed Sheppard and a trio of unprotected first-round picks:
“The Suns get two former No. 3 overall picks in Sheppard and Smith, much-needed draft capital, and they could attempt to flip Brooks for more value.
It’s an absolute haul for the Rockets to give up, but the time is now for a squad that’s the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. In the aforementioned trade proposal, the Rockets move on from a handful of players whose long-term roles in Houston are murky, specifically Sheppard and Smith. Plus, they would still have a healthy amount of depth for the short term and plenty of assets to make another impact move in the offseason or ones that follow.”
Kevin Durant Would Push Rockets Closer To An NBA Championship
The Rockets already have a championship-caliber core led by Jalen Green, Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun and Fred VanVleet. But adding a future Hall of Famer like Kevin Durant would arguably make an already-dangerous Houston team the club to beat in the Western Conference.
So if the Rockets could somehow complete a trade for Durant without giving up any of their top four starters, they have to go for it.
