Jim Nantz pulled off the so-called “announcer jinx” during the fourth quarter of the Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears Thanksgiving game on Thursday.
Bates lined up for a 45-yard field goal attempt that would have extended Detroit’s lead to 13 points. Moments before the kick, Jim Nantz made a comment about all the big kicks Bates has made this year.
So of course Bates had to miss this attempt:
Sure enough, Badgley missed an easy 29-yarder (indoors, no less) after Nantz uttered the term “announcer’s jinx.”
The good news for Lions fans? Per the NFL’s broadcast rotation for Thanksgiving games, Jim Nantz will call the Dallas Cowboys home game. Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady will be calling the Lions game.
Jim Nantz & Tony Romo Are Performing Double Duty This Week
Nantz and Romo were given Week 12 off, but they’ll make up for it by performing double duty this week. The two will eave Detroit and travel to Baltimore to call the Ravens’ highly-anticipated home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
